Last Waltz EnsembleThursday, October 9
2008 is the 30th anniversary of the Martin Scorsese film, The Last Waltz, which commemorates the history and music of The Band. THE LAST WALTZ ENSEMBLE, from Atlanta Georgia, is a fitting celebration of the vibe, energy and music of The Band; one of the world’s most popular, influential and significant rock groups.
" I have never seen a group playing for the first time in Athens, make such a connection with the audience" declared Georgia Theatre manager Will Greene after a recent show. "This music is timeless and this group is boundless." “As the evening went on, I realized that the degree of separation between these guys and the original Band was minimal; they were all just people interacting through their individual and collective love of performing great, timeless music. It's a palpable feeling during the group hug that is "I Shall Be Released,” For this and the show-stopping, verse-trading closer, "The Weight," there ain't a voice not lifted or a smile not found. I walked out of that place humming, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one in the capacity crowd at the Georgia Theatre that kept that good feeling for the rest of the weekend. “ - Harry McNeil/Jambase.com |
